I  am a student of English language, literature and Stylistics. Oh yes, I am a teacher too. I have been teaching at Azim Premji University, Bangalore, India  since 2011. What do I teach? Well, I teach “Curricular Material Development in Language.” Prior to joining Azim Premji University, I was Director, English Language Teaching Institute, Assam from 1994 to 2010. As an Associate Professor of English , I also taught English language and literature at Cotton College, Gauhati University, Assam, India during the period 1984 to 2010.
After completing M.A. in English from Gauhati University, I obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching English from  English and foreign Languages University, Hyderabad and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Calcutta. Under the Indo-British Technical Cooperation Scheme, I went to the United Kingdom in 1988 and did my M.A. in English Language in Literary Studies from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. I also completed the ‘Teaching English to Young Learners’ course of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA in 2012.
My book, ‘An Introduction to Stylistics: Theory and Practice’ was published by Orient BlackSwan, NewDelhi in 2009.
My ares of specialization are Linguistics, English language teaching, academic writing in English and Curricular Material Development in Languages and Stylistics.
During the current academic year, I have designed two courses for teacher educators: (1) Language across Curriculum, (2) A Course in Academic Writing.
